Hello and welcome to my very first blog! I am so excited to start this journey as a Welsh, Cardiff-based travel and food blogger, sharing the best things to see, do, and of course, eat in this amazing country. I’ve teamed up with Cove and Country to bring you a new blog series showcasing everything Cardiff and beyond has to offer. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I couldn’t think of a better topic to kick things off. Whether you’re planning a treat for your mum, grandmother, or any maternal figure in your life, Cardiff has plenty to choose from! So if you’re looking for ideas to make this Mother’s Day special, you’re in the right place- let’s dive in!
Dining Delights

If your mum loves a bit of indulgence and deserves to be treated, Park Plaza is always a winner. I have treated my mum to a couple of afternoon teas over the years and it never disappoints! This award-winning restaurant is renowned for blending classic British cuisine with a Welsh twist. The service is great and I can always expect fresh food and flavours when visiting. Their Laguna Kitchen and Bar is offering a special Mother’s Day menu consisting of an exquisite three course meal for just £37.95. I would recommend booking in advance, as this place is always incredibly popular!
Another favourite place of mine is The Ivy. I have dined here a number of times and they are offering a beautiful curated Mother’s Day menu, perfect for celebrating the special women in your life. This stunning restaurant is offering an elegant two or three course menu, ranging from £27.50 for two courses – £32.50 for three. The menu features a mix of indulgent and seasonal dishes including: succulent sirloin steak, flavourful artichoke and sweet potato tagine and many more. For those with a sweet tooth, desserts like strawberry and elderflower trifle make for the perfect ending. Why not treat yourself and your loved one and add a touch of luxury with The Ivy’s signature champagne for an extra £10? This is the perfect excuse to do so!If you’re looking to support an independent, local gem this Mother’s Day, Milkwood in Pontcanna is the perfect spot. It is well-known for its cosy and stylish interior and its incredible brunch menu. It is a must for mums who love a good coffee and wholesome food. The relaxed, welcoming atmosphere makes it an ideal place to treat your mum to a leisurely morning enjoying delicious food in one of my favourite neighbourhoods. To continue the day, stroll through the nearby Pontcanna fields (fingers crossed the weather is nice) and enjoy spending quality time together.
Relaxing Spa Day

This has to be one of my favourite things to do and I love to treat my mum to a spa day and treatments when I can! For the ultimate Mother’s Day treat, why not whisk your mum to The Spa at The Parkgate Hotel This is a personal favourite of mine, as it is nestled in the heart of Cardiff. This elegant spa offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, making it the perfect place for some well-deserved pampering. I would recommend booking a luxury treatment, as they offer a range of indulgent facials, massages and body treatments. However, what makes this spa so unique and special, is their thermal suite experience. Your mum or loved one can unwind in the hydrotherapy infinity pool, which boasts a stunning view over the city’s skyline. They also have their aroma steam room, salt room and sauna – designed to cleanse, detoxify, and restore balance. What more do you want?
Another luxurious and serene escape, that could easily make you their favourite person in the world, is St. David’s Hotel. This hotel and five-star spa overlooks one of Cardiff’s most iconic waterfront destinations, offering pure bliss and tranquility. I particularly love their relaxation rooms, where you can fully de-stress in a peaceful setting. They too offer their signature spa treatments and use high-end products to provide a truly rejuvenating process. This is the perfect choice for making this year’s Mother’s Day truly unforgettable.
Unique Experiences
However, if you’re looking for something outside the box this year, then why not try some of these ideas?

Pottery Painting session – Peggy’s Pots is a lovely spot where you can paint ceramics together – something fun and creative to do. They have a range of different ceramics that you can choose from including: mugs, plates, bowls, teapots and so much more. You choose the item you’d like to paint and unleash your creative juices. They will glaze and fire it in their kiln and you can pick it up a week or so later. I took my mum before Christmas and we loved it! We aren’t the most creative however, it is more about giving something new a go and we found it very therapeutic. What’s more, you will always get to keep your pottery, as a reminder of the day and memories you created!
Paint and Sip – Paintvine has you covered if you are looking for a fun way to spend Mother’s Day this year. They host a number of sessions throughout the year and you really get to unleash your creative mind. I was lucky enough to experience one of these paint and sip sessions, and I loved it!
Friendly instructors talk you through each step, so even if you have never picked up a paintbrush, you’ll leave with your own masterpiece. All the supplies are included; canvas, paintbrushes, paints – everything you need is ready for you. This will be a great experience to treat your mum and trust me you will laugh, sip and surprise yourself with how fun this is! Check their website for their available dates.

Whatever you choose to do, the most important thing is spending time together. I’d love to hear you’re planning to celebrate Mother’s Day this year – drop a comment below and share some inspiration. Thanks for reading my first blog – can’t wait to share more tips and adventures with you!
